It is a shocking news, i really enjoy this web and the extensive archive u guys have, i wish u guys the best for ur next endeavor, can anyone help me find another alternative that let us download only the English Subs, it is so massive help tbh
I tried some website listed on the announcement section, but none provide the subtitles only... Please help me out... Wish there is anyone can help me... T_T...
Thank you so much for ur guys dedication and amazing work... Wish everyone, the admin, the developer, and even people who enjoy the web the best ^^
That was sudden for me.. I wasn't a really old user so i don't exactly know how many of you are feeling, but I however much time I spent on this partform was great, I still have a lot to figure out like i just noticed they have a discord server, nerver knew the correct way to get to the comments, I am never been a fan of light themes but I always choose 2024q3 - Minamo (idkw)
Discovering the site cause I didn't want to use torrent but wanted the raw files, finding a awesome codec called AV1, helping people who were just like me, it was all fun
Thank you for everything

I just saw the notice that this site is shutting down. This really comes as a blow for me as I've relied on this site for so many years that I can't even remember at this point. 10 years? maybe a bit more than that? Initially I started with nyaa and occasionally tokyotosho but I always found their search functions and sorting to be difficult so when I found this site it was a god send. Back then I also used some of the mirrors due to my weird internet connection so having all these features was amazing. Looking back, I feel like maybe I have taken all these features for granted. I realize that some projects can't continue going on forever but i deeply appreciate the service that you have provided for us.
There's no particular meaning in the chosen date, other than being before the server's lease expiry.

Hello, I wonder if AT shutdown day should be on 15th of August or 1st of September (Japan armistice / surrender day) instead of 9th May (Third Reich surrender), considering that anime is a japanese phenomenon?
I just read through the shutdown notices and it is utterly devastating to read. In times when fan-translated and fan-subbed anime and manga sites are being forced to shutdown, this comes as yet another horrific news. I've been using Anime Tosho since 2013 or so, and this was THE place I used to come to download episodes of anime I liked and if not downloading, then just scrolling through what new anime has come up. The sorting done on this website is really the best, one can grab the files in the quality of their choice from the providers of these episodes that they want. My own fan-subbed anime episodes of Hybrid Child, Junjou Romantica, Little Women, and few others were also grabbed from Nyaa on this site and honestly, it made me super happy that more audience outside only torrenting fans could find my files.
I understand that this decision must have been really tough for you. But I still have that tiny ray of hope that you will possible reconsider the decision of ending this website. If the website is not causing problems to you, maybe there isn't a need to end it permanently.
I wish you all the best in your future endeavours and a happy and safe life ahead.
I don't know if it's possible but I just download the subtitles because I resize the on the media player on my computer and also I can put screen reader for reading the subtitles on my media player on my computer if there's another website that gives subtitles for download that will be awesome I just want the subtitles but thank you for everything you've done on the website
Really gonna miss this place. Many free sites I am looking at for same quality ddl's post them with delays ranging from a day to a week or more. Most skip a few series I am currently watching. Some watermarks are easier to live with than others. Like many great things in life, people tend to only really appreciate them after they are gone. Sadly, this will be another added to a long list of great anime sub and fan sub sites.

bruh after reading this notice i was surprised yet your ending reason is also acceptable seriously bruh first of all thanks for proving this much long content next lofe goes on we will find alternatives still if you can provide some alternative hit them at last lastly nice job done all this years
Admin has released everything (i think) but everything should still be made from scratch because the code is... Uh... The setup itself looks like a labyrinth let alone the code
Looking though the dumped/uploaded code i have realized i am way over my head on this one. The amount of work admin did for even simple features like video screenshots is absolutely insane. I didn't even think about the fact that this is a public piracy site, so i will have to deal with take-down requests and whatnot. I just hope there are other sites that implement one or more of animetosho's features, so i can just make client-side glue.
Most valuable is catalog service - title pattern-matching and series description links. Subtitles ( especially if mediainfo for assessing fit ) help some. Audio etc for special-fit edge cases.
I don't care about that much tbh. I just want the years of backlog torrents archived and being able to see cache pages of nyaa uploads and the their web pages that are no longer on nyaa because the original uploaders deleted their profiles or uploads. You can even see the comments on these nyaa pages from users on these cached pages
Please include the years of backlog torrents including the cached nyaa ones that no longer are on nyaa but can be accessed from here. That is what makes this site the best. Being able to download the torrent files and see what was up in the past is crucial
I'm trying to understand - just subtitles pulled from existing content? Like, you need something where when an episode is uploaded to nyaa, the service extracts the subs from it and posts them separately? I don't use this place for subs so I always assumed there was more to it than that - is that all people want?

AnimeTosho has been my subtitle repository, an occasional download, but mostly for extracted subs. I hope someone takes up the gauntlet of offering extracted attachments & subs. I would rather see someone take over the site with as much dedications as has been demonstrated. I will cry.
The issue isn't the ability to do it, it's the time and cost involved. Edit: after looking at the logistics I guess the cost isn't a huge factor, but the time definitely is. I guess it all comes down to how much the admin releases and how much you need to build from scratch.
It would be helpful to have some stats on what parts of the site see the most use - like how many are coming here just for DDLs, how many for the Usenet mirroring (me), how many just to grab subtitles, etc. Would make it easier to prioritize.

T-5 Days remaining.
Thank you admin. This site has been my go-to for ~10 years now. Your hard work has been appreciated, and I hope fortune favors you as you move on to the next stage of your life.
Now to refamiliarize myself with torrent and IRC. Good times.

I agree. I feel a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

The Animetosho closure announcement has caused a serious disturbance in the Force
Still hope someone will create a replacement for Anime Tosho. Not finding any true replacements for ddl's. Getting watermarks, 720p max, 1.33mb 1080p here reduced to 113mb 1080p and even pop-op watermark at 15m mark. Those are combined with sites skipping anime they don't like and one to three week waits for new episode updates.
Yes I was spoiled by this great site.

btw I think the mix up in prequel/sequel link is caused by the chibi specials, regardless thanks for the serendipitous link

I'm having that, myanimelist.net/anime/40211
see thats the serendipity of this place, I'm really gonna miss all the random stuff that pops up here
I wonder what will happen to users who don't read the announcement when the site stops updating. I know It's going to be a barrage of questions about why the site stops updating.
Sorry. The "ppv death squads" are a real thing. Many sites are forced to relocate 2 or more times a year and leave very vague bread crumbs. It's one of the reasons this site went from useful to necessary. These squads are also why the ddl links here have over the years decreased from a long time to months to 7 to 10 days. When the big dogs start using high dollar AI, the loss of this place will be seen as the good old days.
I am in genuine despair to learn that this site is going away. I have been using this as my daily driver with respect to anime for the past several years ever since a couple nastygrams made me more wary of torrenting. My choice of second resort was XDCC, but that practically got wiped out as a viable option when all the best bots shut down a few months ago. I pray that something new emerges, but things now look so, so grim. Hopefully things don't get as grim as manga downloading has been for the past decade plus, but that seems to be the direction things are moving in.

You can generate direct download links from torrents on this website until proper successor to AnimeTosho emerges.
