The thing is both parties are here. And engagement can only be fueled by both. If you don't get a response you usually move on to harass other people... Now if you response to trash talk and trash talk them back they will get persistent obviously. But that is your own fault. Asking mods to solve your own personal inability to ignore a trash comment is your own fault and no 1 can fix it. If you think your right when responding to trash comments you only feed the trolls. Usually they undersand that they are trolling and dont mean anything that is being said but they do get enjoyment out of seing your responses.

Well usually they only get persistent if they get attention. If no one respons and fuels the flame wars they usually go away. Maybe pop some IP bans on commenting but those are usually just another form of attention - how fast can I get banned.

If someone feels the need to make comments members only the same ressult can be achieved by hiding non member comments from him. It is a yes to both solution. It would filter out hated annons and leave only members to annoy the said user.

"No moderation" is a little extreme, in my book - I think most would agree that some degree is warranted, to at least remove spam and whatnot.
I personally think comments should at least have some degree of value to people who decide to read them. A page full of insults is likely not useful to most readers.

Having said that, I'm fairly light on moderation, so I'd align with your suggestion more closely than most others.

Alternatives like Nyaa tend to be down due to some EU/Baltics routing issue and other sites like to slow everything down with flare or other crap. Hope you will not be forced to use it!

Where do you even find toxic users here? Commenting on torrents? My personal 2 cents on this is keep it open. No moderation needed. Engagement is engagement. It is every ones choice to read or not read comments. They do not play anny part with the baseline function of this site. If the traffic gets to high (bots etc) then limits are needed. People who read or post comments are either those that want to be helpful or engage in w/e pointless discussion they find. Perhaps the best choise is to allow members to hide annonymous comments if they are bothered by them like OP here. To every one else they are just another form of engagement. You always have the choice to turn off you PC and go outside.

Out of all the encoders that respond to posts here I've never seen one as toxic as this one.

Well, they never care about encodes. They just want praises. They pretend to improve but they will gladly tell you that you're an idiot if you don't agree with them. It's not his first rodeo btw. They do this everywhere before they eventually get banned.

Most of the problem in my opinion is his ego that he is a superior encoder and the rest of us won't bow down to his "superior" encodes. They are way larger than the source and any so called improvements don't justify the largess of the file.
I compared a couple of his encodes on a large screen and still preferred the source over his encode. On a laptop or normal size screen I doubt anyone could even see any difference to justify the bloat.

I don't think they can make any point without pointing fingers. They will do it again and again. Then, they will act innocent again claiming it's anons' fault all over again. It's a pattern. I'm not playing their game anymore. I will just straight ignore them because they preach instead of talking. They don't even make good points btw. At least, hylozoic banters are entertaining. But for me, I don't think who started it matters all that much. Yes, it ideally shouldn't happen, but adding to toxicity doesn't reduce it, only ramps it up.
The reality is: you're going to get comments that annoy you, and expecting moderation to deal with all of it (particularly if you're going to react before anyone else can get to it) is unrealistic.
Sometimes taking a step back, even if it's totally unfair to you, is the better move for yourself.
