BTW, DoE was not my release tag just a way of hiding myself in the forum crowd. Only a few people knew my tag, like Golumpa, Koby and a few others. They weren't fond of HEVC (early days) but we all got along even to the point I was a mod on a couple of forums.

Mainly 4k BDs are in HEVC to limit the size for disc space instead of using multiple discs.

What you said is like saying my hard drives are limited to certain codecs. A BD/DVD will take any format you put on it, it's just another storage medium like a hard drive.

You're confusing a lot here... BDs cannot be anything else than their respective standard allow to. 1080p blurays are AVC/H.264 (typically anyway, cause it's a bit more complicated than that) and UHD/4K BDs are HEVC/H.265. You cannot have AV1 BDs just like you can't have HEVC regular BDs or AVC 4K BDs, or VP9/VVC BDs.

Also it's not up to debate if AV1 is better or worse than HEVC. The format is objectively superior when looking at typical industry-leading metrics (not just the quality ones like VMAF and such, but other methods too) and subjectively superior for certain usecases, minis being one of them. The majority of non-mini HEVC encoders even agree on that point, so that says a lot.

It's also just a matter of mindset, the HEVC mini encoders create groups, when we create communities of independant encoders. They've been stuck doing the same thing, never improving their workflow since the day they started doing HEVC, while we're continuously contributing to the software and striving to better ourselves. Nothing is comparable in our approaches.

Aura, I have a decent amount of physical discs of anime, some I regret buying because the quality sucks: Bleach, but I kept buying as they came out. I pirate to see if I like a show well enough to help support it. If I don't like the show well enough I won't buy.
It's like buying a car or getting married, got to have the test drives.
As far as "bad" encodes go it should be up to the viewer to decide if it's good enough for them and having groups bad mouth another groups work just makes me want to avoid the bad mouthers.
Also a lot of current shows are not out on BD yet which gives me time to sort them out.

Aura, I don't like other releasers dumping on other groups work either. And we know who the biggest one doing that here is and I avoid his releases after checking out a couple of his.
I have stuff from both groups you mentioned but I avoid AV1 because of some devices that don't support it since I share with family members that can't play them on what they have.
I also don't think AV1 is all it is cracked up to be. I like the fact the codec is FREE. I buy a lot of physical BD's of many different types: Movies, documentaries etc and even though AV1 is FREE I have yet to see a BD using that codec, must be a reason why they pay royalties for the others.
I can appreciate the AV1 encoders considering when I was active I was one of the first to use HEVC and had to go through the same growing pains.

You're also encoder so just encode this same file with same settings auto tune I mean default and -g 240 check the results size decreased and same quality but based on av1 how things works you guys thinking keyint 193 better but it's actually increasing video size
