HOLYSHIT ITS HAPPENING

thank you so much

finally non-meme subs

also a bit in awe at how bad the encoding settings are. you should probably just use some random raw if you don’t know what you’re doing lol.

wow herkz is such a hater, always complaining about objectively bad encodes.

herkz

btw Nanten is 難転 not 南天

Well, if you got any encoding tips, I’m all ears! This is my first time at it.
And ah… 難転 makes sense. For some reason 南天 was the only thing that came to mind. That also explains why the Grandpa said what he did.

encoding is very complicated and hard to learn which is why i said to just use some other raw. i think almost any other encode would be better than what you did since you basically used some of the worst x264 settings possible. the main profile is basically for hardware devices like phones, but they can’t handle complicated softsubs like your karaoke anyway, so there’s no reason to absolutely ruin your video quality like that.

also not sure why you didn’t include the 5.1 audio in either version.

I actually thought about including the 5.1 audio, but that also meant a larger file size so I decided not to.
And well, noted on the encoding part. I was hoping to learn more about it but I guess there are a lot more hoops than I expected.

herkz

the 5.1 audio at a sane bitrate would barely be bigger than your bloated 2.0 audio. and 1-2gb for a movie isn’t big regardless.

as for encoding, just look at what settings other encoders are using and copy them. there’s a lot more to it than that (like filtering with avisynth or vapoursynth, which all anime needs since they all have banding you want to fix), but you could improve the video quality a lot just by doing that. 10-bit especially is very, very good for anime.

I see… Thank you for all your advice! I guess I’ll have to research a bit more on the subject before my next attempt.

Where’re the memes :<

herkz

i think the best advice would to be apply to some existing fansub groups. i doubt there’s any that don’t need translators. then they can handle the other stuff while you learn and teach you at the same time.

If you can, please contact me on Discord; LightArrowsEXE#0476. I do encoding for various groups.
I was interested in contacting your TL at some point anyway in relation to some song TLs I’ve seen from them a while ago.

So I watched this version all the way thru on my big screen TV and found it to be perfectly fine with nothing that bothered me in picture quality, nor did I find an issue with the subs. In fact this was a nice cartoon that was serviceable and enjoyable. I must be such a giant loser with limited acuity or taste. Herkz says the encoding really sucks, and I thought the cartoon looked perfectly fine. Good thing I never tried to encode anything because all the encoding masters would probably mock my poor choice of settings and laugh at my inadequate understanding of this arcane art form.

I wish I was really cool but I guess I never will be. It’s good to recognize ones limitations I guess. I has a sad.

ignorance is bliss.
