That’s one of many problems in official subs, but I only have experience in TSing and not translation issues for instance. So I can’t personally confirm the latter when present.

Alright, thanks for the info.

Beatrice-Raws are better if you’re into filtered rips with sharper and crisper visual quality. ReinForce does the best unfiltered rips.

I’d personally go with something more natural and faithful to the source. However, it doesn’t mean that I’m not interest in this release. Great work.

Thanks for putting this release together! While I personally prefer honorifics and CGi’s dialogue overall for some seasons, this is a nice compilation. I do have some concerns about this being a definitive release with the “highest quality subtitles” available though.

• From kitsunekko (reddit post), did you grab the latest edits made as of 4 months ago or just the original released all-in-one archive from the google drive? Some newer minor corrections were made.
• Tap24 recently went through and did a complete typesetting pass of 1000+ signs for Nisemonogatari based on Coalgirls/Commie subs. I personally find quite a substantial amount of TS to be better in that release such as episode 8’s manga panels. There’s also the weird inserted title card in the corner at the beginning of episode 4 that doesn’t seem to be in any other episode (at first glance).
• Kizu 3 seems to be based on Edo’s v1 subs. Edo touched up on the translation, typesetting, and timing of the original subs in their v2 release. Kizu 1 & 2 I’m assuming commie was used – though I personally lean more towards liking Edo’s dialogue, translation, and ts.
• Zoku Owari subs are a toss-up between MTBB and Edo. Can’t go wrong with either, though I prefer Edo for some lines. However it’s also unfinished and still waiting on a final QC for the last 3 episodes to be released.
• Owari S2 subs are incredibly large and inconsistent between episodes. Compare episode 6 with episode 3. The BDMV PGS subs also had the OP/ED translated, i.e. in Tess’ release. There’s also ToishY’s unfinished edited subs.
• A lot of seasons are missing chapter markers that CGi and other releases seem to have. The subtitle files are also not language marked or titled.

Monogatari needs so much more tender loving care to be perfected. :( Hopefully someone can revisit the entire series again in the future to make a true definitive edition. Other than the Kizu movies, I’m happy enough to replace my archive with your compilation. Thanks!

do the subs use Japanese honorifics like -san -sama -chan -kun ?

Well you tried. XD I wouldn’t recommend Reinforce over yousei, but in any case I know yousei is hard to find, and thanks for doing that.
Kawaiika very recent versions are also more worthwhile than both Reinforce and Beatrice.
He uploaded most of the stuff just yesterday and today.

And no for Neko shiro 4 and Bake 3 these aren’t the updated subs.
Just minor corrections however.
On Bake 3 its just a note, in Neko shiro 4 I used 4-5 sentences from LNs where I liked the translation better.
Not worth any hassle imo. I’ll just check things out and prepare a small zip with the files for anyone who wants them.

At this point I don’t mind Nise T/S at all. No idea how big improvement Tap24’s T/S is, but all my script edits and consistency edits would be missing if he used those subs.
All I’ll say is that I consider typesetting in Nise more than adequate.
In episodes with heavy typesetting I didn’t use commie as base anyway, I used CMS instead.
MTBB said he would consider working on Nise. I might check that out if it happens and edit them for consistency.

Kizu 3 is based on Edo’s first version yes. Perfectly happy with the sub, won’t change it.
I took great care to make it consistent in tone with Commie Kizu 1&2.
And in general I’ve done a ton of consistency edits in all seasons. Mixing subs from other releases would just break that.

Those corrections are few and minor. Old sub was 99% spot-on already.
Bakemonogatari episode 3 > only updated a note about moe vs tore.

No other changes in T/S compared to CR script, but :

As for Owari 2, script wasn’t bad but subs themselves were poor. I fixed many terrible line breaks and some really bad timing choices that killed readability and made an above average script look bad. And consistency edits, catchphrases names etc. It’s not perfect, but it’s just a placeholder TV release and good enough for me. I’ll probably revisit Owari 2 if needed, when additional translations and BD sources are available.

no further improvements no. Not working on owari 2 until there’s a second script.
tbh T/S on owari 2 is almost unimportant, barebone CR script is adequate. thats why i didnt work with Toishy improvements.
His KFX for arc 2 aren’t included either. MPC-HC won’t play them properly.

If you v2 remember to include the 7 commentaries from nise 1+2 koi 1 & ovari 4-5-6 this time. Definitely worth a watch

I also wanna mention that you are using Toishy’s subs for Owari 2, not the subs from my batch. And idk your source for Ougi Dark.
You don’t make this clear in the description.

Anyway I looked at them some, and looks like there’s enough variation between CR script and finalized BD sub.
I also linked above the CR script I modified, so anyone interested can compare and choose.
And as additional reference for any problematic spots.
Depending on my moods, and if I see much room for improvement,
I might try to merge the 2 versions into a better edit, utilizing Toishy’s signs as well, after he finishes Ougi Dark.

I don’t speak JPN so I need at least 2 translations to compare, mix and match and properly work with.
I can’t do much with a translation and a variant.
If a new good script surfaces / or if official LN translation improves the problematic translations,
I’ll rewatch and if needed, i’ll do whatever I can to improve owari 2 subs.
But I don’t expect commie to release fast tbh. it ll take few years most likely.
So i patiently wait for LN (probably next year at some point)

I also want to make something else clear.
Nothing is perfect, and this release is very good.
It’s what I’d recommend to a friend to download and watch atm.
Whatever I mentioned I deem minor and there’s not much to improve here.
Even owari 2 is very watchable and I wouldn’t recommend waiting for any release, if you want to watch the series now.
It’s good enough to watch and get your, much wanted, closure.

@tirafesi no idea. tbh havent grabbed kawaiika myself.I was lucky to find BDMV/remuxes for everything.
but i know the encoder (deadnews) from other releases, and timings should be identical with BD.
so most likely yes you wont need to retime.
