Encoded Stages 1-6 of the Initial D series into high quality MKV h.264 format with English, and Japanese audio, along with English Subtitles as well.
Encoded the Initial D - Extra Stages 1 & 2 OVA into high quality MKV h.264 format with both English and Japanese audio, along with English Subtitles as well.
Encoded the Initial D - Battle Stages 1 & 2 OVA into high quality MKV h.264 format with Japanese audio, and with English Subtitles as well.

Fifth Stage and Final Stage were never dubbed, so those only have Japanese audio with English subtitles.
Extra Stage 2 was never dubbed, so it only has Japanese audio with English subtitles.

For playback all you need is the proper codec or media player if you don’t already have it.
Combined Community Codec Pack or the K-Lite Codec pack should give you all you need and more to play these back.
If you do not wish to install a codec pack, a modern Media Player such as MPC-HC or VLC Media Player should come bundled with everything you need.

I remember you having a recommendation for each season and what resolution is best to download in one of your older torrents, care to share it again?

@Marche With the improvements I made in the scripts for this release and the custom filter I made that did a better job on detail for some of the stages, I would say forget that old recommendation and just get this 1080p one if you plan to watch it in fullscreen 1080p or a 1080p+ TV. If I were to redo those 480p/720p ones, some of the stages would be better than they were. Only then would I stick with the recommendation I had, because they would have the same script and filter advantages. They aren’t bad at all, I just know I could improve them some if I redid them now.

But if you still want to go with it, here is what it was before.

First = 480p/720p
Second = 480p/720p
Third = 720p/1080p (Remaster or Blu-Ray release looks more than nice enough to suggest in HD)
Fourth = 480p/720p/1080p (480p if you want grainy details in tact, 720p or 1080p if you want clearer picture, but lost details from DNR)
Fifth = 720p/1080p (Definitely HD animated and meant to be seen as such)
Final = 720p/1080p (Definitely HD animated and meant to be seen as such)
Extra = 480p/720p
Extra 2 = 480p/720p
Battle = 480p/720p
Battle 2 = 480p/720p/1080p (Same reason as Fourth)

But the First, Second and Fourth were not HD. The BDs were just upscaled with details all smudged and obliterated. Are your 1080p here for those stages DVD upscales.

can u reduce the size like 300/400mb per episode?2 or 3gb is too big for me…i think every anime 1080p nowadays can do that with hevc x265…

It is comprised of a recap from First Stage to Third Stage, along with staff commentary and sneak preview of the making of the Fourth Stage.)

Downloaded the first episodes of season 1 to check the quality.
Sure its the best quality out there available right now, but 2.6GB for an episode its little too much, could have reduced it to 1.5GB an people would still not see the difference.

Should have kept japanese audio with english subtitle as default, instead of english audio.

@everyone I am not reducing the file size of my 1080p encodes for this series. This release is quality based, and I am not going to compress the hell out of it and or reduce the quality more. If it’s too large for you, then go get my 720p release, get another 1080p release, or get some highly compressed mini mkv garbage elsewhere.

Hey Dark Dream. I remember I asked you before if you will do 1080p of all Initial D. The dark dream became DREAM COME TRUE! You are no longer dark dream you are light & bright dream now, bringing light & brightness to people who likes classic anime!

Do you know the anime F? It is a 1980’s classic racing anime. I cannot find it anywhere not even here in Nyaa.

First and Second could have been remastered properly if the masters existed, but they don’t. The production cels are no longer in Kodansha/Avex possession and most have been sold to collectors. The CG scenes would be impossible to properly upscale without the original source files. Funimation PR told me that Avex could not provide the masters to them back in 2008 because they had been lost or destroyed sometime in the previous decade.

Third Stage was made on film, so a perfect 1 to 1 transfer is what you see on the Bluray set. It is magnificent, exactly the way it was seen in theaters.

Fourth Stage was originally broadcast in 480p, which is the high end of SD but still something. As Fourth was a digital production, it would be impossible to make it look any better. An upscale and DNR job is about all you can do. A true 1080p version does not exist as it was not produced that way.

Fifth and Final stages were originally released on PPV in SD and HD broadcasts, so the HD versions look just fine. What is somewhat funny is that Animax does have a listing in their archives of a “Final Stage HD Remaster”. No idea what was remastered if the show was already in HD.

1: What upscaling algorithm was used for the first and second stages?

2: If you ever redo a v2 I’d like to see additional subtitle tracks included from other release groups for completeness
