Allow me to explain. The first batch of Inuyasha is out in the US. I was surprised to learn that it includes the intact opening. So, this warrants a new encode. Quality wise, it’s pretty much identical to the Spanish version. But the subtitles are internal PGS. They did make some small modifications to them, but not many improvements. Please understand that it will take a long time for the entire series to be out in the US. If you can’t wait, grab the previous batch. Enjoy.

Thank you SO MUCH! |

The US BDs have IVTC issues though… |
| ChaoXide |
USBD has IVTC issues, video is darker, and looks like colorspace is different. |
| DmonHiro |
They do? I haven’t noticed. Mind if you show me? |
| H94 |
is this FLAC or AAC? |
| DmonHiro |
AAC. I don’t do FLAC. |
| Weebly9 |
Viz’s authoring house always encodes in the wrong colour space. They’ve been doing it for years now, since K Return of Kings I believe. |
| DmonHiro |
But what would they do that? Is there any benefit? |
| herkz |
it’s the correct colorspace for SD video, so they probably just changed some setting and forgot |
| Weebly9 |
No benefit. Just incompetence. For reference, this is what the same company was shitting out prior. Raised gamma and shitty compression. |
| Weebly9 |
Also, going by the two separate encodes of episode 1 you’ve uploaded it looks like the Spanish BD has higher Gamma, whereas the US BD has that correct but is instead encoded in the wrong colour space and has interlacing artifacts albeit supposedly better compression. Pick your poison I guess. Comparison - https://slow.pics/c/wFmzIjEG |

This is a classic “pick your poison” scenario. Fantastic. Guess I’ll wait for the JP BD. |

I haven’t heard anything about a JP BD yet, but if they’ll ever do it, it’s soon because of the sequel. Also, it’s obvious they have BD quality masters. They have to do it. |
| mohamedh |
I hope they announce it soon… JP BD is usually better than US BDs quality wise. |
| Weebly9 |
Well, they have some sort of HD masters albeit not necessarily the best. Apparently the masters sourced for the Spanish BD, and assumedly German and US BDs were actually created for a HDTV Rebroadcast in Japan years and years ago. For what it’s worth the German BDs apparently have the (judging by the judder in some panning shots at 24p) correct 1080i30 presentation for this show, but I know very little about them outside of that. |

Sigh. Viz always screws up somehow. I guess I’d just take a FUNimation release over Viz. At least FUNi doesn’t ruin all their releases, I mean, it’s not ruined, but still. |
| DmonHiro |
Yeah… almost every time something is screwed up. I only made this because of the missing songs. And while using the Spanish video and the US audio would work for this OP, it would not work for the other missing OP song because that one had its episode previews cut out so the length will not match. What a pain. FUCK YOU |

Some comparisons between a colorspace correction on USBD and a gamma adjustment on SPBD: |

1080P version? |
| Chilled |
@Dmon it’s easy to cut it yourself to fit |
| DmonHiro |
No, it’s not. There is missing footage, either audio or video, depending on the version. And there’s no way I’m wasting that much time on manually cutting and fitting. Not worth it. |

How interesting you left the black borders. |
| DmonHiro |
I don’t crop. I have no need to. |

Thanks alot man :) |

Johnny & Associates is a talent agency in Japan. It’s EXTREMELY obtuse about letting you use its work outside of Japan, and sometimes inside too. They can through their weight around in Japan because the always have the hottest bands but they think they should have the same power outside of Japan as well. That makes companies outside of Japan not want to deal with them because they are a pain in the ass to work with. Also, it was ran by a pedophile and child molester. He’s dead now. |

Filesize? |

@ChaoXide Can you share your color correction for Spanish BD? Looks interesting, thanks. About USA BD, only OP/ED textless are without interlaced issues, the rest is fucked. |
| DmonHiro |
@nks: What? |
| fabrebatalla18 |
You can crop odd numbers with this trick: Spline64Resize(962, 720, 239, 0, -239, -0) |
| DmonHiro |
I didn’t know about that, but my main point remains: why bother? There’s no benefit to cropping except a very small decrease in size. I’m talking like 20 MB. |
| nks |
Not speaking for myself but some people do watch their anime windowed and not fullscreen or on a tv. And seeing two black boxes on each side is incredibly annoying to said individuals. Not to mention not cropping just seems incredibly lazy especially when you’re going through the trouble of downsizing it to 720p already. |
| DmonHiro |
You’re not wrong, but I make my releases the way I consume them. Thus I have no reason to change them. I don’t watch windowed, thus I do not care. |
| Ransumone |
Will you crop for future releases tho, now that you know the trick? Assuming that encoding doesn’t take longer that way. |
| DmonHiro |
I’ll try it out at least. If it really does allow me to not lose any pixels I have no reason not to do it. |
| toppoer |
the usbd has what looks like frameskipping (it’s very distracting and also not in the textless op for some reason) i’ll take the spanish bd over this one anyday just gotta edit in the missing op frames from the textless op |
| DmonHiro |
Well, I’ll be damned, fabrebatalla18, your trick works. Wish I knew about it earlier. Maybe I’ll redo this torrent. Not gonna redo the Spanish one though. I doubt anyone would download that again. |
| SomaHeir |
Watching the Italian BD’s. I just can’t wait for the US BD’s, but glad that you are still plan on doing it(even it will be a few more years to finish it). Thank You!! |
| Intervencion |
@SomaHeir watching as in waiting for them or there’re actual Italian BD for Inuyasha? |
| fabrebatalla18 |
If you keep using the video from USA you will be using a video with frame drop and jerks in the pans |
| DmonHiro |
Does it matter? I’ve already put out the Spanish BD version. I’m only making this because it has the original songs. If Japan makes a BD and it has the opening songs, I’ll be doing that one instead. |
| fabrebatalla18 |
You can do a mix OP/ED textless from USA + rest from Spain, but i guess you need resync english dub. My edit: |
| DmonHiro |
Resync english dub? Lol, like I would even include an English dub. But anyway, no, I’m not going to do that. I’m releasing as is (with one updated cropped version for this torrent). |
| Weebly9 |
Can I ask, colour wise does your encode match that of the source US BD episodes? |
| DmonHiro |
I have no fucking clue anymore. Everyone posts screenshots, everyone has different colors, nothing looks like it looks on my PC. I don’t know. Whatever. |
| Weebly9 |
Nevermind, I found some shots for comparison and yours matched the BD. Not sure about the episodes, but Viz definitely fucked up the opening itself. It’s been colour space converted twice. |
| fabrebatalla18 |
You are right @Weebly9, I have reached the same conclusion, the VIZ NCOP has the color space screwed up, but the chapter itself has the color space screwed up 2 times, and it seems that the correct color is that of the Spanish BD but the Spanish BD has the gamma too bright, so it is not 100% exact either, anyway, all companies have screwed up this release in one way or another |
