[QCE] = "Quality Compression Experiment"
This is a 1-man operation that is just for fun, trying out x264 AAC 720p re-encodes at small file sizes for those with bandwidth limits. The goal is to be one of the smallest file sizes but maintain quality levels decent enough that an average viewer won’t notice. Feel free to compare it with another 720p and let me know what you think

Give out file data, encoding used etc…, I would say use h265 file size will be 60-80 mb and put Screenshot here so that people can see.

@Studboo-Senpai What “file data” are you talking about? I already say in the description that it’s 720p x264 AAC. You want me to type out all the encoding settings too? You can just use mediainfo for that

The reason I do x264 is because there are already other groups doing x265 at really small file sizes. [SSA] and [mal lu zen] are just two examples that come to mind. I’m not aware of any groups doing x264 mini-encodes

I’m too lazy to put a screenshot, and honestly screenshots are useless because you can just pick frames that look really good and aren’t representative of the entire video. Personally I don’t feel like misleading people, even if other groups are doing it

My encodes are already small enough that you can just dl one episode and see for yourself anyway. If you dl one episode and find that it’s not good enough for you, then so be it. I’m sure you’ll find a group that matches your needs

Not bad, I started with x264 actually. I mean I didn’t upload it, but when I was testing it out. But honestly, x264 can become small but it’s not feasible for all anime. Some anime’s become too blurred at certain points of the episode, like when there’s too much motion and etc when using x264. And testing out for each anime which settings would be the best, well atleast I don’t have that much patience, so all I could do was keep a baseline setting for all, took me about 2 months of continuous testing to find that out.

On another note, when I was younger I was completely dependent on soulreaperzone, they would post very small sized x264 anime videos. But they were slow. And 1080p was not that good. They are still alive, you could check them out.

I’m curious about animepahe though, I think they are using a custom compiled x264 encoder. Since mine and theirs are not always that different.

@SmallSizedAnimations Yep, I was originally planning to do Promised Neverland, but it has too many dark scenes and the quality just isn’t good enough so I didn’t release it. Too much motion is a bit less of an issue, since high-motion scenes are typically only fractions of a second. If it really matters, then my encodes are definitely not the way to go. I’m catering mostly to people who want x264 and have monthly data caps

Animepahe’s stuff is similar in file size to my stuff. I’m just another option for those who don’t like their watermark and hardsubs
