Thanks for this! I hope my PC can handle it. It’s not new enough to be able to handle x265, but sometimes it can. I REALLY hope I catch a miracle here! I appreciate the upload either way!

@oozaru are you mad because your shit PC can’t run HEVC? :(

You could have reduced the size even more with HEVC without losing much of the quality. 1-1.5GB per episode (~23min) is too large. Thats what I expect from an x264 encoding. There is not much difference in visual quality between this and a 300MB per episode (HEVC) encode, at least on 1080p monitor. I thought the sole reason HEVC gained popularity is due to reduction in encode size without losing much of the quality. I think if per episode was 650MB (due to huge FLAC audio and kudos for that) I would like the upload no question asked. I still like it though.
BTW: I am not saying it is a bad encoding. I guess everyone has their own preferences.
Thanks for the upload and hard work.

tallu11029 : Random Trivia - The FLAC Audio (Japanese + English) alone amounts to 581 MBs (on a random Hunter X Hunter m2ts source file). You want us to invest just 70 mbs on the video? I’m sure the quality of that would be appalling. There are two ways of looking at HEVC - you could go with the same old x264 settings you had, and knock off a minimum of 30% filesize. Alternatively, you could maintain the same old filesize you had with x264, and push audio and video settings beyond anything you could ever go, with x264. The latter seems a no-brainer (given my hardware) and is more exciting to me personally, as an encoder. Regarding quality differences, you’ve got to blow the picture up to a substantial size, for the difference to tell. I’ll shortly illustrate what I mean. By the way, you’ve got to trust that your encoders would make half-decent choices at the very least, especially when they’ve hung around for a good decade =P

https://s1.postimg.org/10sforbvhb/DSC07985.jpg & https://s1.postimg.org/1tutyuaf7z/DSC07992.jpg <-- Now folks, that’s how the encode looks on a 55-inch Ultra-HD screen. Those pictures were taken in a tearing hurry. I’m sure there are better, more colourful scenes to pick from & better ways to use the camera (some other time). I’ll soon upgrade my projector to Ultra-HD as well. I have two hard drives alone worth 32 Terabytes (& several smaller ones). As a leech, as an encoder & with all this hardware, budgeting simply doesn’t make sense to me anymore. Anything must look as good as it possibly can when I archive it, everything else be damned. I don’t even care about PC screens anymore. The point is this : a PC upgrade is the least expensive of all other options. HEVC is here to stay & the ball is in your court. You could also be patient till prices drop 2-3 years down the line for UltraHD TVs & projectors and when you do indeed get them, you won’t regret these encodes.

DorianHD

Fluttershaft : There was a cataclysmic HDD crash and quite a few archived shows were lost. I’m afraid we’re going to have to re-do a lot of shows now, Hidamari Sketch being one of them…when we finish it, it would be our pleasure to upload it (and anything else we have but Nyaa doesn’t). In the meantime, I hope I’ve laid this HEVC ghost to rest, now and for evermore.

My god, that FLAC audio size is huge. I thought it was about 350-400MB. 581MB is out of this world, no wonder the files are these big.

How’s the quality compared to coalgirl’s release?

Also thanks DHD! Been downloading your releases for years now, keep up the great work!

DorianHD

Our pleasure, you’re welcome! Coalgirls were awesome, but I’d like to think we’ve done just as good a job ;-) You’re the jury though!

Sir,when are you planning to release the rest of the episodes? ☺ Thanks btw.

DorianHD

You can just call me Jd, Sir. Viz Media is in the process of releasing these dual-audio Blu Ray sets - http://www.nerdspan.com/hunter-x-hunter-set-3-blu-ray/ . They’ve got to release all the sets first, and we’re looking at about a couple of years before they’re done. We’ll have them up here in no time at all, once Viz is done releasing them.

Brilliant post. They are so clear. They make the 480p’s I had look like rubbish. Are you planning on doing the rest of the eps?
Well if I’d read the post above this I would have known the answer to my question. I look forward to seeing them!
