I have VLC, MPC and MPV. I watch on a 4k big screen and don't see any real difference between the players.
I could tweak MPV if I wanted to waste the time for some slight improvement but I'm not that anal about it.

The video used isn't any mini encode, it's a re-encode of moozzi2! omnipotent500 just keeps pumping out garbage.

It's not just the audio of this release that's fucked. (The video is also not good either, considering it's HEVC and ~300 MB per ep. Love some HEVC minis!)

But worst of all, there are a lot of really stupid, arbitrary changes made to the script. The uploader (omnipotent500) is very blatantly ESL. ESL people tweaking English scripts rather than scripts in their own native language is ridiculous. I would avoid this release if you care about quality in the slightest.

The lower quality video has reportedly started showing up in Europe, on their browser streams. This does not bode well at all if they're starting to expand this to more regions.

CR ending up becoming just as bad as all the other streaming services in terms of video quality is unfortunately starting to look like a very real possibility.

If you didn't catch the news Crunchyroll has started using different encoding settings (worse video, better audio) but it seems to only be the Indian subcontinent for now (as Toonshub is also affected but only on the shows that are available in India).
