1. yes he used share-raws and there is no "eDVD" of it afaik (nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=344122)
2. don't know the technical details as to why, just stating standard nyaa practice, ie 576p upscales won't get removed while 720p will (talking about DVDs)

1. So you've checked with the company and can verify that no e-DVD was released after the initial DVD, or you know shi0n's sources?  Ok, that's good to know.  These companies are so good at making little 'must-have' upgrades.
2. What makes any pixel-upscaling "acceptable" or "unacceptable"?  It doesn't create any new data.  If it's aesthetics then there is no right answer.
3. On non-Movie BD's --I haven't been keeping up on studio practices.  Is there still a standard they all work to in-house these days, like 960p or whatever it used to be?  I assume that's what you were referring to?

576p is an upscale too, and there is no point in upscaling to 720p because your pc/hw decoder can do it too
it wasn't killed because 480p to 576p is an acceptable upscale while scaling it to 720p is not, the same way most the 1080p BDs are upscales while 720p BDs often are downscaled

If you still have that earlier download and it used softsubs you can use these softsubs instead.  Just click under the preview pictures where it says "#1: eng [ASS]", and chose to download the file.  Place it in the same directory as the earlier download and rename it the same as that download except use the suffix  .ass

So if you had Otherfile.mkv, you would then have Otherfile.mkv and Otherfile.ass in the same directory.  Most video players will then associate these new subs with that file automatically when you played the mkv or allow you to choose them.  The content of the videos has to be identical for the timing of the new subs to match up, which shouldn't be a problem in this case.  The size of the subs might also have to be manually adjusted for best viewing when different resolutions are involved, but such flexibility is part of what makes softsubs so great.

The highest native resolution for this show would be 576p if you had an enhanced Japanese DVD, as this group possibly did:

At least Nyaa didn't kill their torrent, either because an e-DVD exists or Nyaa wasn't sure.  Nyaa might even allow that much up-scaling just to avoid the hassle of tracking down sources.  But I haven't found shi0n-subs translations to be --well, here's their release note:

"actually this subs were 3 times reviewed by me, since this show was so stimulating, I can't concentrate much on it."

--It's hard to pack so many grammatical errors into so few words, so I wouldn't have high hopes for that production.  But I hate to complain about free stuff.

As I recall, SubDESU tried to release a 720p pixel-upscaled version of this show but Nyaa kept killing their torrents of it.  SubDESU thought it looked good upscaled, but Nyaa doesn't allow it.  Hence the SubDESU comment above, "Now no-scaled right from DVD".  From Nyaa's point of view, it would be harder to identify new stuff from re-hashed old stuff if they allowed pixel-upscaling, I guess.  Some people think pixel-upscaling just inflates file sizes, some people think it looks better than lower native resolutions.  Some people think it looks worse.  Personal preference.

I did a small test with AnonFiles:
- "wget https://cdn.anonfiles.com/1376972279463.7z" => redirected to "https://anonfiles.com/redirect/1376972279463.7z", and then "https://anonfiles.com/file/34398790ce65a949fbedd33e8265b8b6" (the download page).
- "wget --referer=https://anonfiles.com https://cdn.anonfiles.com/1376972279463.7z" => 2013-09-05 13:59:50 (7.29 MB/s) - '1376972279463.7z' saved [339927819/339927819] (download started and finished normally).

It seems that AnonFiles starts requring referer anonfiles.com*, a small proof to show that you start the download from their download page, not some random sites--They've changed their mind on hotlinking?
If you copy the link and paste to the download manager, it won't give you the file but redirect you to the download page as no referer information is provided. If you let IDM catch the link from the download page, or send it the link via some addon like Flashgot, the download should start normally like before.

TL;DR: Just click the link on the download page and let IDM catch it, or you need to deal with that referer.
