You are right to an extent, but I'm starting from the premise that most weebs don't possess an HDR compatible display, besides maybe their phone. I'm more or less expecting that people will encounter issues because they are clueless about the subject (nothing wrong with that, that's why I'm warning them in the first place).

I'm inclined to say the software part is the most important, because even if the hardware isn't compatible, a competent media player will fallback to another solution (here tonemapping), while a bad player will display the video incorrectly or simply refuse to play the file altogether.
Look up
Dolby Vision - HDR - HDR10 - HDR10+
A 1080p or 4k capable device doesn't mean it also has HDR capability. You get what you pay for.
I'm no expert in encoding but isn't it more to do with the video hardware being used? I use Klite with MPC and just let it do its thing. No changes to media player. Once I play any video in 4k or HDR my 2021 LG OLED tv automatically detects 4k and/or HDR and compensates and automatically goes into that mode. The detected mode is shown on the tv when it changes.
Playing 4k on a tv/monitor that isn't capable of down-scaling either wont wont play at all or wont without major issues. Trying to play HDR video on a non HDR tv/monitor will likely play but the quality wont be like its intended. Unless you have a high end or higher end mid range your tv/monitor probably isn't capable of playing HDR properly regardless of the software media player.
Just my own experiences with my high end 4k tvs and my older tvs/monitors that cant do HDR or 4k.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on anything Ive stated. Yes the media player plays a part but I'm pretty sure the hardware is the most important part. You cant expect get results on low end/low mid video hardware. I don't encode but Ive downloaded petabytes of media over the past 3+ decades and usually stick with the higher quality releases 99.9% of the time So going by strictly my own experience.
Ah  another episode of "that time I was reincarnated as a Goblin"....  oh wait... sorry my bad!
Toonshub never provided 720p. he's been here for a long time, this person: Lex is still stupid.

pop ads yikes
AT scraps Nyaa, anidex and TT English-Translated.  If they torrent to those it comes here, if not then not.
Allegedly there is another non-MTL "Girls Band Cry" eng-sub release, besides Sobsplease and NakaYubi. It's called Sasugasubs and I wonder if AT doesn't carry it?
Assuming you are using a media player that does a competent job at tonemapping or displaying HDR content, the video won't look washed out like this :)
As I pointed out in the release description:

"Even at CQ20, I’m surprised at the extremely low bitrate I ended up with, and unfortunately it comes with the perk of the video being quite a bit distorted at times. If you can notice these artifacts in motion, I recommend you to get my 4K version instead. Alternatively, a 1080p v2 will see the light of day when we get proper .ass subtitles."

I decided to release this anyway because I knew many people would not mind, but I still intend to make a v2 encode for those who do mind.

Thanks for the info, but that's for your setup.
The decision to tonemap should be done by the client, not the server. The server just needs to flag the image with the corresponding transfer function, and let the client decide on how it should be rendered.

Yes, they would be "incorrect" on a HDR display, however they're honestly egregious at the moment

I wouldn't worry about the HDR screenshots. My HDR monitor automatically switches to HDR mode when it senses a HDR signal but I doubt it would sense a HDR screenshot to even switch modes.

There are no ads here since the admin doesn't play that way.
I'll watch this series when someone comes out with all 18 episodes.
The uploaded episode order is too stupid to figure out.

I clearly don't have the solution, but wouldn't tonemapping be incorrect on a HDR display?

No clue, but I can't imagine it would matter much.
Wrong.

Released by SubsPlease group. We strive for consistent and fast English subbed releases, basically a better HorribleSubs replacement.

FYI. It was HS calling out Erai and telling people to use SP because Erai uses default styles (which are pretty damn terrible).

Might want to get your facts straight next time.
I don't download AV1 files, but this is in HDR. If your player isn't setting up for HDR then it will look like crap.
So says another monkey. ;-)
There are also some sketchy third-party Nyaa mirrors, if someone wants other categories than English-translated anime.
"Nyaa.land" looks like the least sketchy one that I know of that still works. Has some irrelevant ads on the page, but does not open any garbage if you click anywhere on the page, etc.
I personally use a VPS proxy for Nyaa itself, but AT is still good for what it does.
missleading file name. contains "link click". has been removed from the source
you monkeys can't even go on their discord to yap

How would you deal with it then?
Many of us can't access Nyaa so this place is plan B.
Thank You Admin and the uploaders.
admin deals with problems like this when they arise, and we should be grateful.  I think in the past there were concerns about Nyaa being everything.  Some of those concerns don't seem as important these days.  Others may have a place in the future.
Damn the encode looks bad, maybe you should increase the bitrate?
No, the beauty of this place is it scrapes Anidex, NYAA and TT (I think). This is a one shop stop for those 3 sites. AT saves a lot of time by not having to visit all 3 and sorting through them.

Does it take up a lot of server load?
In that case, Admin should remove anidex from AT.
where are the subtitles ?
There is no other listing of this title on Nyaa for this group.  It is carelessly mirrored and mis-listed on anidex as English translated, "bro".
Here its not nyaa, its anidex bro.
This title on Nyaa is listed as a raw, no subs.

File Info:

    Video: 720p WEB-DL x264 (ABEMA)
    Audio: Japanese
    Subtitles: N/A
    Duration: 00:23:40.132

previous also ABEMA by ToonsHub had no subs, hard or otherwise.  That's probably why admin is limiting ToonsHub to Nyaa.
I'd like to believe the nasty stuff was the actions of just a single deranged lunatic.  Given what happened to HS, it wouldn't be logical to try and make SP a next single target.  But I never checked on any chats there.
The SP fans quickly forget that stuff that made them look bad.
I never said anything about their founding or replacing HS when they quit, I was talking about them and the fanbois reaction to Erai when they had an issue for a few weeks. I switched to Erai when that crap hit the fan because I don't like one group targeting another especially since SP was new to the crowd.
