Admin, surely there's a way?

Put a notice up on the site offering the chance for applicants to take over the site, spend a little time training them how to navigate the idiosyncrasies of your code (I know you once said that the code wasn't designed for others) Whats the worse that could happen? It's going to crash and burn anyway.

You also have the option of doing a crowd funding to go towards site costs and rewarding you for your efforts? I would donate.

If someone wants to take over the site, they can do so by running their own copy of it. I'm happy to direct users to such copies.
I can answer some questions around the code, but I do expect people to mostly figure it out for themselves.

Thank you for everything and having to shoulder it all. This has been a wonderful site and great communication with everybody as well. Hopefully in the future you are able to restart the site again or possibly with more help later on. It has been amazing to have the ease of use and wish you the very best in life and all future endeavors.

Anyone make a copycat site yet?

@Admin Thanks for everything~<333

I'm digging through the open sourced code.
I spot a lot of technical debt, which feels like a annoying bunch of chores to deal with.

I can't wrap my head around what https://github.com/animetosho/uploader-php-ext tries to resolve though.
What  and why couldn't be done in PHP?
27/04/2026 20:52 — Kamonohashi-
probably for speed as php is slow and many more things
27/04/2026 21:12 *admin
Most of it isn't so useful. In fact, I think you can run without it as the code has fallbacks for if it isn't there.

sendfile is slightly more efficient than read+write calls for uploading, but it only works with raw streams and basically all hosts these days use HTTPS, so doesn't get used any more. Though there's OpenSSL's SSL_sendfile if you want to go there, but the efficiency gain might not be worth it.
posix_fadvise was meant to help hint the disk scheduler, but you can mostly get the same effect with large read buffers, which is what the script does anyway, so not all that useful.

swap4 encoding is used for obfuscation when wrapping uploads in 7z archives. Currently no uploaders wrap uploads in 7z, but it's there if it's ever needed.
You can of course do the encoding in PHP, but the ways I could come up with were all significantly slower than doing it in a custom extension.

bro could maintain a alcoholic guy trying to run from usa police for crime of being the biggest pirate persona 😔, edit: please tell me some opsec rules you follow i always wanted to know this stuff
29/04/2026 12:51 — admin
I don't think I'm the model of good opsec, but don't dox yourself I guess. Keep separate online "identities" and don't let them cross over.
Making payments can be painful as a lot of hosts have some degree of KYC. If you're receiving income/donations, that's potentially more problematic, but I avoid doing that.

There's also AI potentially being used to de-anonymise people, to that I have no clue what to do - maybe run all your posts through some AI that changes your writing style perhaps? Sounds painful.

But another tactic is just not to attract attention. People won't bother trying to dig up info on you if they have little reason to do so.

so afraid to reply because i have nothing important to talk but not replying will be rude meow oni chan

I think doxxing yourself to test out if stuff of you is public online is the just the right thing to do?
01/05/2026 03:44 — admin
I don't quite understand that theory - would you elaborate?
05/05/2026 10:52 — Anonymous: "The True Kaiba"
You might want to find the sites where your info is posted on and try to take them down.
Or steer the conversation with FUD, spreading doubt if the posted information is accurate. For example saying "Address xxx is old. Person moved. The new address is yyy." Stuff like that.
06/05/2026 05:31 — admin
Doxing generally refers to exposing your info publicly. Searching for yourself can be something you try, but that's not called doxing yourself.

If your info is public, trying to take it down or misdirect is likely a very tricky thing to do. I wouldn't hold much hope any attempt would be effective.

@Admin

Thank you for the reply~<3

In my last post I meant to express that I feel you for closing down AT, because the technical debt in the code would make it less fun to run AT. Apart from the financial and operational burden.

Stay well and have fun with your new next projects~<3

Thanks for the comment + clarification.

because the technical debt in the code would make it less fun to run AT
If you're saying that's a key reason, I wouldn't call that an accurate assessment.
It's not like I'm incapable of changing code that I find problematic.
I suspect that your evaluation of "technical debt" differs from mine, which is hardly surprising, given the massive difference in familiarity with it. (note, I'm not saying your evaluation is "wrong", rather that everyone other than myself would have a different perspective to me)

love you admin + everyone who interacted with me(including my anon comments) in the comments, this is part of my fav. sites list, this site was the reason i was able to interact with 2B, Trix, admin and so many more people, also i am so happy to have a release of mine listed before the shutdown as a memory, meow

Now we have a date. I figured earlier in the month was going to be a reality based on previous posts about data consumption and lowering activity until it resets.

Thank you again. Everything must come to dust.

I only just saw the message of the shutdown D= You've probably already read this kind of message thousands of times but I also want to add my appreciation for your work and this site. I used it as an unofficial tracker on top of a place to dl my anime and it will be sorely missed. There's nothing to really quite replace it in my heart but wishing you the best in your future endeavors.
