Feedback Page

This is a somewhat temporary page made especially for the beta version of this website. It's to collect all your death threats, love messages, requests to the code monkeys or just suggestions/issues/questions/criticisms/idle talk or whatever feedback you think is worth our database space.

Wow, I just knew this website since last December and only 4 months announcing sites shutdown.
And wow, this site is already 15 Years. Just like my cat.

Thank you for running this site as long as you have, it was my go-to source for my anime needs.
End of an era.

Thank you for releasing the code, admin!

As the code lacks that one anidb API key that maybe some people won't be able to get their hands on, I did obtain it before (by reversing the entire protocol, same as admin did), so I'm willing to offer it to anyone that is serious about wanting to run a clone of animetosho (let's say willing to foot the bill for 6 to 12 months at least). I hope anidb won't actually kill this API now that knowledge of how it works is public, but even if they did, I happen to have database dumps from that API that are updated up to last month.
I'd also be fine offering, even if I think anyone running such a site should be required to know how to do this: 1) installing the site 2) whatever maintenance if or when uploaders break. What I can't offer is daily stuff like writing series detection regexps and dealing with comments/spam/requests. I thought about just running the whole thing myself, as the costs are not that high, but given the bus factor and already being somewhat busy, I don't know if I want to take on such a long-term responsibility.
If anyone is interested, reply here. I can make a mail if there's any interested parties to work on this, or we can figure out some other way to discuss this like IRC.

You're telling me AniDB didn't just collaborate?

I just assumed Admin went and asked pretty please and they just gave him an API key and half-wrong internal docs.

AniDB has 3 APIs: TCP/IP, UDP, http.
UDP is mostly for adding files to mylist and far less useful for a site like this.
http is the most complete, but so heavily ratelimited it's very easy to get banned, something like requesting the same page sooner than once in 2 days is likely to get you a ban, among other things.
tcp/ip api is a private API that only has been implemented in AoM, which is sorta unmaintained for years, but they still provide support for it. This API gets you full database dumps, in a sanitized form, some useful fields are missing that are present in http, mostly fields/tables that got added after AoM stopped being actively maintained.
the database dump provided by the tcp/ip one is the quickest, most efficient way, but anidb for some reason is deathly afraid of people scraping their data, in fact they started even using cloudflare that always challenges you in the past few weeks, making their site unusable for many.
since admin referenced the AoM client in his docs, I assume he just got the key and figured out the protocol by reverse engineering, which isn't that hard, but I didn't know of anyone besides me and I assume admin that got these values.
These dumps are useful to anyone needing to do large-scale lookups that would easily get banned by the http api, since it's basically an offline copy of the site. It's missing some things like character tables and newer metadata like additional site links for an anime or episode - I kind of want these, but there's no way to get it besides the http api, but AT never needed those extra links.

But I have no way of knowing, maybe admin just asked and they gave him the same API key instead of making him a new one? I will just assume he got the AoM key given the repository uses that id.

The attitudes of the admins on the forums there didn't give me the impression that they'd give out keys, so I never bothered asking.
I also made an effort to not disclose how I was obtaining AniDB data until recently, to avoid them shutting down the API.
I assume their fear is over competitors using their data, so my leaving the TCP client in an unworkable state hopefully doesn't worry them about keeping the API alive, but we'll have to see.

I'm not a tech guy, so I cannot imagine what it takes to build and maintain the great websites such as animetosho. It seems like a lot of work for one-man operations, but I guess a lot of techy otakus would be lone wolf types. That fact probably makes it more difficult for the tech guys to form groups for long term projects, but understanding that might be the basis of making group projects work. It would surely be helpful to go into such a project to remember that  there may be different types of egos and working preferences, and time schedules and availability, but I'm sure it can be made to work. As a person that would be lost without fansubbed anime, I want you all to realise that your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated. Also, for those involved, don't go breaking your back trying to get things released on schedules - I'm sure I speak for a lot of western anime fans when I say we'd rather have our subbed releases late than never. Ganberae techy otakus! Keep up the good work!

Maybe I'll try to take a look another alternative, and hoping it's as easy and simple like this website
Good luck for your next journey Animetosho admin, and thank you again for all past years with you!

Thank you this was the greatest repository of anime Torrent I've ever found it breaks my heart that you will be shutting down. I don't know how I will replace the need for this website and how it easy it made finding anime torrent.

Thanks for all your awesome work, admin-sama!
Sorry I didn't read all 500 previous pages of comments, they're a bit much, but has anyone found an alternative that just has the releases list for all the sites? All I see are people trying to find the DDL service's alternative but I mostly used it to keep updated on the subs and versions being uploaded to all the sites at once. Asking for something else that also groups them by show like AT would be asking too much but is there a decent aggregator for all the most common sites? Should I just stay in tokyotosho?
