lol. lmao even
You think the video quality hasn't changed since 2003? They are always updated to date, you can compare old and new video player. https://i.imgur.com/KIZQBTa.png
for all I know I could commit a change to the popular x264 forks/mods and say it was updated in 2025
k-lite is not a video player, if you're not going to make sense at least state a few facts

what the fuck are you talking about
You are right, the encoding is updated to improve video quality and stability. Then applied to your video players such as k-lite, mpv and vlc. And this licensi applied to software applications such as Adobe, AVS, Handbrake, Streamlab and Movavi.

RIP Celeron enjoyers

You must have a real potato if you are that concerned about cpu usage.
It's no wonder. Netflix AV1 settings suck, therefore the quality of their encodes suck.
And yet no one rips the AV1 streams, makes you wonder why doesn't it
Wait until people find out: with updated software, av1 playback takes less cpu% than hevc playback, not kidding
AV1's better than H.265 at low bitrates, like billion times better, but what it's missing is compatibility.. it's still too hard on the device and has too many issues with decoding. H.264's still the best to go with as of 2025 and probably for a few more years.

It's unfair to say that AV1's not taking off though, Youtube uses it widely (for example) with a VP9 fallback version for devices who can't play AV1 and it works fine... So never say never.
What's this even mean? The spec? Encoding software? What got updated?
They're not great lol, especially for anime
Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about.
Until you realize that NF ripping software lets you manually select av1 or h264
Netflix's av1 streams suck
>there's a reason the primary Web DL's we get from it are in AVC
There you go spoiling their little 'gotcha' wet dream
You do know that not everything Netflix streams out to the end user is AV1, there's a reason the primary Web DL's we get from it are in AVC
This is comical because all the av1 haters who use Netflix are using av1 without even realizing it 😂
Just wait until you find out that the biggest streaming platform in the world, Netflix, uses av1
I think it's sourced from Wikipedia
ever used any video streaming platform?
Source: trust me bro
nice sarcastic
Well sam, mtbb, ozr, animetime, judas, ember, neodesu, every prominent anime releaser, they're all using avc, not hevc
AVC latest update 2021, AV1 latest update 2019. HEVC latest update juni 2024
How is avc the standard?
Been around for 6 years and AVC is still the standard, sad!

Your yapping won't make it any better, it looks like shit and that's a fact.
They all cried about hevc when it came out too "my computer can't play this" then "oh I updated my media player software and it plays fine now"
This definitely be a "old man yells at cloud" moment, av1 has been out since 2018 and whiners who never update their media player software are still saying "av1 new, therefore av1 bad" ya'll been crying about this for OVER SIX YEARS.

Intel Celeron users RIP.
Whoops you didn't read the last sentence "inb4 "they could still switch to av1" let's PRETEND you already know that blu-ray players contain a video decoding chip that's unchangeable hardware regarding what video codecs it supports."

Let's just say you had a momentary lapse of judgement and forgot about the millions of Ultra HD blu-ray players out there that can't play av1. You think Sony is going to allow av1 discs? That the preexisting players can't use? Good idea.
Most of the newer players can stream AV1, it's not hard to add the codec to the hardware especially since it is free.
My dudes, my dudes, let's all take a breath. I've loved 264 and 265 for years, and no one ever said "ugh 265? why are you using this? just use 264." My media player software is from 2016 and it plays 264/265 and it can't play av1 smoothly so obviously av1 is bad, so I'll tell everyone not to use it.

And those AV1 companies, the governing members of the Alliance for Open Media are Amazon, Apple, ARM, Cisco, Google, Huawei, Intel, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Mozilla, Netflix, Nvidia, Samsung Electronics and Tencent. They're wrong. AV1 isn't taking off, I don't see this becoming a thing.
Another well thought out comment. Dude thinks 4k blu-ray had a choice between av1 and hevc.

HEVC spec ratified: 2013
Ultra HD Blu-ray release date: 2016
AV1 spec finalized: 2018

Why didn't Ultra HD BD choose av1 guys? I guess we'll never know...

inb4 "they could still switch to av1" let's PRETEND you already know that blu-ray players contain a video decoding chip that's unchangeable hardware regarding what video codecs it supports.
AV1 was created for the sake of saving bandwidth, therefore don't use it for local files? Solid logic. Just wait until they find out the reason why hevc was created....
Buying a new house = same as trying a new video codec
Exactly, blu ray discs still use .265 despite the royalty fees. If AV1 was all that they would opt for AV1 as the codec of choice.
He didn't say they were brand new. They still are modern though. Being the latest thing doesn't mean it's the greatest just look at all the recalls on newer cars. My house is about 25 years old now and it's still a modern house even though some of the building techniques and specs have changed since then. I don't think I'll be changing houses just for the sake of having something new.
AOMedia Video 1 (AV1) is an open, royalty-free video coding format initially designed for video transmissions over the Internet. Which means this format is used for streaming sites. So yes, if playing offline, use x264 or x265.
"264 is brand new guyz!" (he googles the year it came out) "oh"
