I doubt YouTube will bother with AV1. It needs to be substantially larger or have a 2160p stream.

I doubt the AVC or VP9 would differ greatly with a show like this, you'd need to be pixel peeping to find something. I'm my experiences AVC seems to be the most balanced, VP9 would sometimes beat it but not often and it would be a handful of episodes out of an entire series.

As I lack a Nyaa account: which youtube format is best is a video by video and sometimes scene by scene basis. AV1 (not available when video goes live, processed later, if ever) can have even more noise reduction than VP9 (but sometimes preserves detail better than that) and at times AVC can fare the worst.

It is disapointing Premium VP9 can look worse than AVC (it should be the best due to a far higher bit rate cap but only if it can ultilise it).

I've not looked into dash vs. IOS legacy formats but dash is smaller (not sure why).
